Meet Emily

Emily Brown uses a mixed media technique to create stunning and uniquely-abstract works of art.

Her unconventional techniques push the paint to do more, sometimes to the point it visually transforms into another medium entirely. Emily paints beyond the brush, often using her hands to create on canvas, wood and paper using equal parts bold strokes, innocent lines, and untouched spaces.

Emily’s art like her life is ever-changing and evolving from one stroke to the next. One canvas to the other. One day to the next. Instead of one piece at a time, Emily works on many. Changing them on her easel as inspiration strikes, just like the colors on her palette.

Emily is a Mississippi native with a story that is woven together like the bold strokes in her work. Always creating, she followed a paint splattered path leading first to Mississippi State University where she earned a BFA. Then onto a career as a graphic designer and now full-time artist. She has drawn inspiration from many locations along the way. Most specifically, the iconic charm of Charleston and the Carolina shore that she called home for over a decade. Emily recently returned to Mississippi and currently resides in Oxford. Three of her most stunning masterpieces call her mom. And her biggest fans call her daughter, sister, wife, and friend.

While I find joy in bold color and layering, I also love the starkness of innocent lines and untouched spaces.
